Questions To NOHVA
Question: I was wondering about the
registration process to ride in Iowa. I live in Nebraska and my family and I
want to ride at the L Street bridge in Council Bluffs. I know you need register
your ATV, but I was wondering what documents you need? And also if there is
anything else we need to do so we can ride there? Thanks for your help!
Answer: An out of state registration costs $15 per year. You will need your
VIN number, make and model of ATV, they will ask for your name, address, social
security number, weight, etc. For more information visit

Question: I have been asked by some friends
to see if there is cabins available at the Halsey forest area. Would you
please let me know what would all be available to them.
Answer: There are no private cabins for rent at the area. However if there are
no other people using the 4H camp ground cabins they may be rented. Contact the
State 4H Campground at Halsey at 308-533-2224 well
before you would like to rent. Otherwise the nearest lodging is 17 miles
from the main entrance.
Question: My local 4-H group would like to
have an ATV safety riding course and I was hoping you could provide me with
information or a contact to set up as soon as possible.
Answer: While we have not been involved in 4H work, we have been in contact
with state organizers who would like us to work with them to organize ATV rider
training events. As of this writing plans are being formulated for such an
event. Otherwise I suggest you contact your local 4H chapter in Fullerton, the
Nance County extension agent.
Question: In regards to possibly organizing
a monthly drag race. I would like to discuss the organization of this event
with a club officer. I think that if the event is organized properly, it has
the potential to become as popular as out of state destinations. Please contact
me at your earliest convenience.
Answer: Concerning a monthly drag race, while such an event may be popular, we
do not have the resources to hold such an event on a monthly basis. It would
involve insurance, security, EMT's,
restrooms, staffing, emergency planning, crowd control, obtaining extra land for
parking and much more. It's not unusual for an event to cost $5,000 to $10,000
each to hold after expenses are paid. We pretty much use up our volunteers for
the two jamborees. There is an application process to hold our events at
Headworks. On non-jamboree weekends the area is reaching maximum capacity now.
We are nervous that if the crowds become larger, a staff would need to be hired
and no one has the funds for that as
no fee is charged at the area during non-jamboree weekends. Over crowding
usually means additional problems involved in keeping the area open, and could
result in the area closing and for this reason we try to not promote the area
extensively. Most OHV parks like Headworks have a paid staff, we don't.
